Pepe (PEPE) is an ERC-20 meme coin launched in April 2023, based on the Pepe the Frog internet meme, with no stated utility, no team allocation at launch, and no roadmap beyond cultural participation. It became one of the largest meme coins by market capitalization within weeks of its launch, driven entirely by speculative retail demand and viral social media attention. Pepe occupies the purest end of the meme-coin spectrum: it exists entirely as a speculative cultural artifact. The anonymous deployers stated at launch that the token is "useless" and described it explicitly as a meme coin with no intrinsic value.
